Wayne Brady and his ex-wife Mandie Taketa have had an open conversation about whether they will end their reality show in Weekly entertainment‘s exclusive first look at Wednesday night’s new episode Wayne Brady: The Family Remix.
In the clip (above), Taketa worries about Brady’s well-being after he admits he no longer feels safe showing so much of his life on screen. “I’m done,” Brady tells his ex and business partner.
“If you don’t feel safe doing it, we don’t have to do it,” Taketa replies. “Because it’s not worth it.”
Taketa then recalls Brady’s “idol” Robin Williams, mentioning the comedy legend’s autograph they recently saw on the wall of an improv club. If Brady doesn’t address his issues head-on, “it could easily affect you,” she says, referring to Williams’ suicide in 2014.

This leads Brady to reflect on how the actor’s death affected him in a later confessional. “When I lost Robin Williams, I realized that just because that person makes you happy, smiles, laughs and gives you joy, doesn’t mean that they feel that joy,” he says. “And the bigger realization was that I belonged to that club.”
Taketa warns Brady: “If you don’t take care of yourself, if you’re just doing this because you feel like you have to do this docuseries, if you feel pressured to come out when you’re not ready, then I’m afraid this could happen to you. You’ve been in this situation before where you were one second away from ending your life.”
The family remix offers an intimate look into Brady’s personal life and follows his journey as he publicly came out as pansexual. It also features his blended family: his ex-wife, business partner and best friend Taketa; their 21-year-old daughter Maile; Taketa’s partner Jason Fordham; Taketa and Fordham’s young son Sunny; and another surprise addition: Brady’s 6-month-old son Val Henry, whom he unexpectedly welcomed into the world with another ex during the pandemic.
Brady told EW before the premiere that he ultimately agreed to take part in the show because he wanted to encourage others who aren’t yet true to themselves. “I felt like if I could step out and say, ‘This is my truth,’ maybe I would inspire someone else,” the actor and television host said. “Because life is too short to live in the shadows… that’s what makes it worthwhile for me. That’s my contribution.”
He also spoke about his friendship with Williams, whose death helped him grapple with his own mental health issues and set him on a path of self-discovery. “If someone who brought so much light and love could leave us and suffer in silence, then I didn’t want to suffer in silence anymore,” Brady said. “I’m glad I had the chance… to really explain to him what he meant to me as a young actor and as a child.”
