Defensive Back of the Class of 2026 Wayne Henry has chosen Auburn.
Henry, who attends St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland, announced his decision on social media on Monday. He chose Auburn despite several other previous offers, including LSU, Tennessee, Maryland, Florida, Penn State, Michigan State and Boston College.
Henry has chosen Auburn despite his last visit. Two important reasons for his decision are defensive coordinator DJ Durkin and safety coach Charles Kelly.
“The conversations I’ve had with them, the culture they’re building, it’s about hard work, winning and family,” he said. “That’s where I want to go, to a school like that.”
Henry has had several conversations with both coaches.
“I’ve met Coach Kelly twice,” he said. “He came to our school when he first came to Auburn and then he came back again. I think he’s a great person. He likes to work and compete.”
“Coach Durkin, I called him and told him I accepted. He was very pleased with my acceptance.”
Teammates played a big role in Henry’s signing
Two other important reasons are teammates Blake Woodby And Bryce DeasThe two recruits of the class of 2025 have chosen Auburn.
“They’re going to be there, so why not continue playing with them in college,” Henry said. “They told me Auburn was a great place, it was like St. Frances and I would love it.”
“We all can’t wait to get to Auburn. I’ll come to a game. We all plan to get together.”
Smith, who currently stands 5’10” and weighs 175 pounds, said his size and playing style have been compared to Arizona Cardinals defensive back Budda Baker.
“People compare me to (Baker) a lot,” Henry said. “I’m built like him, have the same size, am just as competitive and fearless on the field.”
With Henry, Deas and Woodby now all committed to Auburn, the three have another teammate in their sights: the Class of 2025 defensive tackle. Darrion Smith.
Smith has currently committed to Tennessee, but “we are working hard on him,” Henry said.
Henry is Auburn’s sixth commitment in the class of 2026, a group that is currently ranked No. 2 in the country in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
