“With oil prices falling sharply on fresh concerns about the U.S. economy following a poor jobs report, gasoline prices have fallen in many states. More could join the trend this week as earlier disruptions at refineries in the Great Lakes region ease and the restart process begins,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “Diesel prices have also continued to fall, and while Tropical Storm Debby is pelting Florida and the Southeast with rain, it poses little risk to refineries or refined product pipelines, so the storm is not a major concern. With the Middle East on high alert following Israel’s attacks on Hamas and Hezbollah, this could have an impact on oil prices. However, with the outcome impossible to predict, for now I expect gasoline prices to fall slightly in most states in the coming week, with the situation in the Middle East being a wild card.”
