Forty minutes separate the US team from its eighth consecutive Olympic gold medal.
The Americans will face France in the women’s basketball gold medal game at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris on Sunday morning.
The U.S. team’s unprecedented international dominance – they have now won 60 Olympic Games in a row – shows no signs of slowing down. On Friday, the Americans beat Australia by 21 points in an easy semifinal match. Breanna Stewart scored the game’s highest points with 16 points, while the U.S. team tallied a whopping 31 assists and 34 baskets.
Things are a little different for France, who are ready for their first gold medal match since 2012. With a hard-fought overtime win, the French sneaked past Belgium and now have a chance to beat the Americans.
These are also the first Summer Games in which the same two countries will face each other in the gold medal game in men’s and women’s basketball.
