Ye names Drake and Jay-Z as the best and greatest rappers

Ye has put aside the animosity between himself, Drake and Jay-Z to give the two rappers he once worked with the recognition they deserve for their place in hip-hop.

Ye praises Drake and Jay-Z for their place in hip-hop

Most rap fans are aware that Ye isn’t on the best terms with Drake and Jay-Z at the moment, so it’s a bit of a surprise to hear him compliment both rap stars. On Wednesday (August 7), political commentator Candace Owens published an interview with Ye that she conducted in 2022. While a lot has changed in the two years since that conversation, Ye’s respect for Drake and Jay as rappers seems timeless despite their personal issues.

During the hour-long interview, which can be seen below, Candace Ye said that before meeting, she listened to Jay-Z’s 2003 song “Moment of Clarity,” on which Hov raps, “I simplify for my audience to double my dollars/They criticize me for it, but they all scream ‘Holla.'” She compared the Brooklyn rapper’s admission that he had to choose between simplifying his words or delivering information in a more common style to Ye’s previous comments during his 2022 Drinking Champions In this interview, Ye said: “Information is the most important resource for our species about water.”

The topic prompted Ye to say that their conversation, which veered into further discussion of Ye’s claim that the French do not have control over the black vote as the Jewish media does, made him think of both Drake and Jay, who has long been Ye’s mentor and friend.

“Drake is the greatest rapper of all time in terms of numbers,” Ye admitted at 34:43 below. “Jay-Z is the greatest rapper of all time in terms of inspiration.”

Ye then made a shocking statement that Beyoncé should allow Hov to sleep with other women. “I just think Yoncé should let him go get some pussy, seriously,” Ye insisted. “Go to the DR or something, like, you know what I mean?”

Candace then asked, “What’s going on? Are you still good friends with him?”

In typical Ye fashion, he used an analogy to make his point in vivid detail, comparing Jay-Z to the one on top and Ye to a firefighter battling under the fire with Hov standing above him. He never answered Candace’s question about how Ye and Jay-Z stand as friends.

“I’m just like, man, Jay-Z is like the head, head, head, you know, we’re under fire and we’re the firefighters, but to be a good firefighter, you have to be willing to run into that fire and that makes me the number one firefighter,” Ye described. “That makes me Michael because I’m going to run into that fire. Everybody knows I’m going to run into that fire for the people in the burning building.”

He continued by using Drake as a metaphor to demonstrate his popularity. “Who are the people in the burning building?” Ye said. “The whole society, because black people and rappers are the thought leaders. We all like people, you know, when you go to college, people have different majors, but everyone studies Drake. It’s very few people, even if they’re not particularly into listening to them, everyone in college knows the song. That then becomes the information part of people’s curriculum and the DNA of how we think.”

Yes’ complicated relationship with Drake and Jay-Z

On both sides, Ye has had feuds with Drake and Hov over the years. Drake thought Ye told Pusha T in 2018 that he secretly had a son named Adonis, which led to the “Story of Adidon” diss and further fueled the feud between Push and Drizzy. Ye denied it, and Push actually said it was Drake’s producer 40 who spilled the beans. There are more issues, like Ye dissing Drake on the “Like That” remix this year, but the feud over who revealed that Drizzy has a son remains one of their biggest problems.

Also in 2018, Ye admitted that he was hurt that Jay-Z never came to his wedding when Ye married Kim Kardashian in 2014. The two got together in 2019 for Diddy’s 50th birthday. However, Ye called out Jay’s name during a tirade caught on video this year when he attended the Vulture 1 joint album with Ty Dolla $ign. Although Ye called Hov the “greatest rapper” in the interview with Candace Owens, the GOOD Music boss’s other comments that Beyoncé should allow Jay to sleep with anyone could once again cause a rift between them all.
