10 things that shocked a traveler to New Jersey

We often complain about the overpopulation of our state, after all, it is the most densely populated in the country.

Recently I came across a video on YouTube by a vlogger named “Mileage Mike” who listed the “Top 10 SHOCKING Things I Learned on My First Trip to NEW JERSEY.”

He’s from North Carolina and he put the video together pretty well. It’s worth a look. It’s not all bad. In fact, for the most part he compliments our state quite a bit.

The first thing he noticed was that we can’t pump our own gas. (We’re now the only state that does that.)

You must bring your own bag for shopping. (another shocking, nonsensical law.)

He divided us into three regions: suburbs, suburbs of New York City, and what he calls “everything else.”

Every square inch of New Jersey is incorporated. There is no open land like in other states.

The fact that we don’t have any “really big cities.” He cites Newark as the largest, but by no means dominant, city.

Tolls: He pointed out that entering New Jersey is free, but leaving the country is subject to a fee.

The NJ Turnpike. Mileage Mike calls it the best-planned highway in the country.

Road construction. The fact that we need a police car at every road construction site, no matter how small.

No left turns. He was fascinated by jug handles.

His final conclusion was: “NEW JERSEY IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO LIVE.”
