Do you love the theater but always miss something because most shows start and end within a few weeks? Now you have a month and a half to see “Wild Things,” Shadowbox Live’s new sketch comedy and music show. That’s more than two dozen shows!

Elsewhere in the theater community, companies, artists and excellence will be honored Sunday at the Central Ohio Roundtable’s 20th annual celebration. The event includes the Central Ohio Theater Critics Circle’s 29th annual awards ceremony

Tired of the same old beer at the same old bar? Get your hands dirty—and learn a thing or two—at Cocktails at the Conservatory in Franklin Park, Beats and Brews on Super Saturday at the Main Library, or the Ohio History Center’s newest Pleasures of the Cup offering.

Cocktails and preservation on the menu at Franklin Park Conservatory

Sustainability and spirits collide at the next Cocktails at the Conservatory event, “Sustainable Sipping,” scheduled for Thursday from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, 1777 E. Broad St.

Sample drinks from local alcohol retailers who will share details about how they support the environment, learn about the Sustainable Kitchen Series in Franklin Park, or take part in a hands-on planting event.

Cocktails at the Conservatory are open to those 21 and older. ID will be checked at the door.

Reservations are required for all guests and close at midnight prior to the event.

Tickets are $35 for general admission and $30 for members. Tickets are not sold at the door and may sell out in advance. (fpconservatory.org/events)

Shadowbox Live goes wild with new comedy and music production

From incompetence and cable companies to ghosts, tax evasion and Batman, Shadowbox Live’s (SBX) outrageous sketch comedy and music show “Wild Things” begins airing Thursday at 7:30 p.m. for a month and a half.

The SBX house band plays music ranging from classic rock of the 70s to current pop and rock hits from artists such as The Eagles, Ozzy Osbourne, ZZ Ward, Imagine Dragons and many others.

Additional show times are Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. through September 29. All shows take place at SBX, 503 S. Front St., Suite 260.

Childish Gambino stops at Schott during the “New World” tour

Childish Gambino – the Grammy-winning alter ego of successful actor, comedian, writer, director and producer Donald Glover – may be retiring from the music business, but you can still catch him before his “New World” tour ends.

Gambino, known for songs such as “Heartbeat,” “Redbone” and “This is America,” will perform at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Schottenstein Center, West Lane Avenue and Olentangy River Road.

The 40-year-old artist has stated that his recently released fifth studio album, Bando Stone & the New World, will be his last under the name Childish Gambino. The album also serves as the soundtrack to his upcoming film of the same name.

Sons of Gladys honor “The King” with Elvis tribute at Natalie’s

The Sons of Gladys are considered “Ohio’s premier Elvis tribute band” and will honor the “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll” on the 47th anniversary of his death with a show on the Music Hall Stage at Natalie’s Grandview, 945 King Ave., on Friday at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m.

The 10-piece band from Columbus will recreate a Presley performance from the early 1970s, playing tunes from the live satellite broadcast “Aloha from Hawaii” as well as popular songs from the late legend’s live repertoire.

A full menu of food and drinks will be available before and during the show. Tickets are $31. (nataliesgrandview.com/events)

Back to school party hosts accept donations for students in need

BrewDog DogTap Columbus, 96 Gender Road, Canal Winchester, is offering an afternoon of fun and a chance to give back at its back-to-school party on Saturday from 12pm-4pm.

Event highlights include free meals for kids throughout the day, activities such as face painting and a bounce house, treats from Bubba’s Sno Balls, bubbles from Ohio Bubblers, and a clothing swap for charity.

Main Library offers Beats and Brews and other activities on Super Saturday

This weekend, the Columbus Metropolitan Library is hosting Super Saturday, with special programs in the main library at 96 S. Grant Ave.

Are you a musician looking to make money from your work? From 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Conference Room 3A, a group of local musicians will discuss the business side of the industry, its problems, successes and strategies. Register for free at events.columbuslibrary.org/event/11194896.

Activities at Kaufman Plaza include Beats and Brews, where guests ages 21 and older can enjoy a beer from Nocterra Brewing Co. from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and listen to music from local group “didi” from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Taquitos food truck will also be in the plaza from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. (events.columbuslibrary.org/event/11406031).

Central Ohio Theatre Roundtable hosts 20th annual celebration

The Central Ohio Theatre Roundtable will hold its 20th annual ceremony honoring member groups, artists and accomplishments of the past year on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Abbey Theatre, 5600 Post Road, Dublin. The event will be preceded by a reception from 6 to 7 p.m.

The roundtable event presents awards for community partnership, emerging leaders, theater educators, youth theater arts, the Harold Award for significant achievement (which goes to Mark Phillips Schwamberger of Evolution Theater Company), and five Standing Ovation Awards. The awards ceremony includes the 29th annual Central Ohio Theater Critics Circle awards, including the Roy Bowen Award for lifetime achievement.

Ohio History Center invites you back to the 1950s at the “Mad for Martinis” event

Hop on the Wayback Machine and travel back to the 1950s at the “Pleasures of the Cup: Mad for Martinis” program for those over 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Ohio History Center, 800 E. 17th Ave.

Sip on quirky period cocktails (included in admission, as is a tasting glass), test your ’50s knowledge on a pop culture game show, and explore the Lustron House.

Admission for non-members is $45 general and $30 for drivers without a license. Admission for members is $40 general and $25 for drivers without a license. Advance registration is required. (bit.ly/4dvXw5u)

Johnny Steiner and band play a wide repertoire at two shows

Columbus singer Johnny Steiner will juxtapose classical and modern music in “The Best is Yet to Come.” He will present his extensive repertoire in two concerts. His performances are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Church of the Messiah, 51 N. State St., Westerville.

Accompanied by a band, Steiner will sing songs by artists such as Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Billy Joel and George Michael, as well as show off his own piano skills. The show also includes a special tribute to the late composer Marvin Hamlisch.

Tickets are available for $15 at the door. Proceeds will be donated to humanitarian aid. (johnnysteiner.com)

Sarah Jarosz will put down American roots at the Southern Theatre

Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Sarah Jarosz will take the stage at the Southern Theater, 21 E. Main St., on August 21 at 8 p.m., touring in support of her latest release, “Polaroid Lovers.”

Jarosz’s 2020 album World on the Ground won the Grammy for Best Americana Album. In addition to her solo work, she formed the supergroup I’m with Her with Sara Watkins of Nickel Creek and singer-songwriter Aoife O’Donovan in 2018; the band won Duo/Group of the Year at the Americana Awards. Their song “Call My Name” won the Grammy for Best American Roots Song.
