13 elegant updos that I’ll copy immediately

I’m telling you now: updos are going to be a huge fall hair trend. As we say goodbye to bratty summer and hello to demure fall (at least according to TikTok), all signs point to these elegant updos making a chic comeback in the new season, and I’m all for it.

An updo instantly adds an elegant touch to your look. Whether you’re wearing a slicked back bun for the evening or a simpler bun with a bobby pin for the day, an updo adds another layer of elegance to your look and makes it look extra sophisticated. There’s also a practical aspect to an updo. Sometimes you just want your hair up and out of the way – without it getting caught in your lip gloss.

I usually wear my hair down, but after seeing so many chic updos doing the rounds, I’m inspired to try out a few fall hairstyles to give my look a seasonal refresh. From the slicked back bun to the French twist, here are the classiest updos I’ve saved that will take you from daytime errands to an evening date—someone pass me the hair clips!

13 stylish updos that will get you lots of “you look so chic” compliments

1. French Twist

My favorite hairstyle of all updos is probably the French twist. Timeless, elegant and suitable for any occasion, this hairstyle will make you look elegant instantly. A French pin is an easy way to secure the hair, but if you have very thick hair, you may want to add some bobby pins to hold your hairstyle in place.

2. Ponytail braid

Not all updos have to be complicated, tricky or require hairdressing training. Sometimes it’s the simplest hairstyles that look the chicest. A great example of this is this sleek ponytail braid from Rosie Huntington-Whitely. To make it look extra elegant, it’s important to secure the base of the braid with a clear elastic band to make it look seamless.

3. Bun with face-framing strands

If you normally wear a slicked back bun, why not pull out a few strands in the front to frame your face for variety? Use a curling iron to add a soft curl that flatters the face, like here on Hailey Bieber.

4. Bun with claw clip

If you want to look effortlessly neat or if you accidentally forgot to wash your hair, a hair clip is your best friend to give your hairstyle a deliberate look without spending more than two minutes on it. Done.

5. Low bun

A low bun is suitable for both the office and weddings – it is a versatile hairstyle. If you regularly tie your hair with hair ties, switch to silk ones, which are much gentler on your hair and won’t snag when you take them off.

6. Braided bun

If you currently wear braids, a low bun is an easy and stylish alternative if you want to wear your hair up.
