FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – An 18-year-old Fort Wayne man has been sentenced to 77 years in prison for murder in 2023.

The jury found Nasir Owens guilty of murder and arson, and also imposed an enhanced sentence for using a firearm in connection with the death of 19-year-old Austin Seiman.

COURT DOCUMENTS: Suspects shot victim during an argument and returned to remove body

Allen Superior Court Judge Fran Gull sentenced Owens to 60 years for the murder, two years for arson and 15 years for use of a firearm. She also ordered Owens to pay $2,617.13 in restitution to Seiman’s father.

Seiman was found dead in the Maumee River in late September.

His body was found two days after reports of a shooting near Lafayette Street, according to an affidavit filed by Fort Wayne police Detective Nicholas Lichtsinn. When police arrived at the scene, they found $20 and a bloody shirt, but no suspects or victims.

Witnesses told officers they saw two men hitting another man and then heard gunshots.

The story continues following our previous coverage.

The two men then left the area, returned with a black bag, placed a body in the car and drove away, witnesses told police, according to court documents. Two hours later, police were called to a car fire.

Inside the car, police found a Speedway rewards card that was later linked to Seiman, court records show. They learned the vehicle belonged to the mother of 21-year-old Dimitrius Walker, who was also charged with murder in Seiman’s death.

Walker is scheduled to go on trial in the case in January.
