3 things we hated and 3 things we loved

Let me get this out of the way right now: There is absolutely no reason why Mariah May shouldn’t be the one to take the title away from “Timeless” Toni Storm, and that needs to happen at All In. Excuse the pun, but May has been on top form lately, and the promo clip she filmed in the video airing tonight proved that even further. When it was announced in the comments that we would see May’s “debut in a brand new movie,” I expected it to be in black and white, like Storm’s current era. I was pleasantly surprised that wasn’t the case, but it was shot quite darkly, making it even more menacing, yet still sexy, something May has perfected since battling Storm.

May also dropped some fiery (again, sorry!) lines during the promo event. She mentioned Storm’s loss to Saraya at All In last year and said, “I copy your successes, but never your mistakes.” Amazing. Another good line? “Your biggest mistake was being alive at the same time as me.” Phew, get ’em, girl. In the video, May is seen gathering all of her gear to look like Storm’s different eras, taking them outside, dousing them in gasoline, and then setting everything on fire.

The final line of fire? “Don’t worry, darling, we’re both going to die. I just get to write your eulogy,” as the final shots show May behind the burning equipment, then a photo of Storm burning. Simply incredible. Simple and effective.

I mentioned this week in our coverage of WWE Raw that the feud between The New Judgment Day and Rhea Ripley and Damian Priest has already become boring because they do the same thing week after week. AEW is often guilty of this too, but not tonight, with one of the hottest feuds ahead of All In, which, as commentary kept pointing out all night, takes place in just 11 days. We didn’t actually see May or Storm live on the show. Neither was seen until tonight’s show began, two Dynamite episodes to go. There were no backstabbings in the ring, no one jumped anyone on stage, but this one video of May was more effective than all of that. It was very well filmed, edited, produced, written, everything. When AEW does video promos like this right, they are truly perfect. I can’t be convinced otherwise that May vs. Storm is probably the hottest feud coming into the pay-per-view. I also can’t be convinced that May doesn’t walk out as AEW Women’s World Champion and Storm’s life falls to pieces again. Those are two dynamics I’m excited to see on Dynamite, and for once a women’s feud is one of the best things AEW has to offer, and that’s incredible.
