Ryan Pisarri, a former three-sport star at Ramapo High School, will temporarily take over Rutgers’ athletic department after Pat Hobbs resigned on Friday.

Here are three things to know about Pisarri, who was the school’s assistant athletic director before Hobbs left.

Sporting ancestry

Pisarri was an eight-time honors winner at Ramapo, playing on the football, basketball and baseball teams before graduating in 2002.

He played on seven teams that won league titles and three that won regional championships.

He set school records for most interceptions in a game (three) and a season (16) before he started playing football at Penn.

Administrative experience

Pisarri transitioned from a career in finance to a career in sports in 2011 when he joined the Rutgers University staff as assistant academic coordinator, working closely with the men’s and women’s basketball teams.

In 2013, he was promoted to Deputy Director of Administration and Marketing.

His bio on the Rutgers athletic website lists numerous responsibilities from his most recent role as assistant athletic director, including developing strategies for how the department can continue to innovate in the changing landscape of college sports, annual evaluations for all 24 athletic programs – including head coach evaluations – and overseeing relationships with major donors.

Continuing education

Pisarri graduated from Penn with a bachelor’s degree in 2006 and spent his early career in finance at Pomona Capital, LCC and Oppenheimer & Co.

According to his LinkedIn page, he added a Master of Education from Rutgers in 2021 and an MBA from Rutgers in May of this year.
