NORTHERN MICHIGAN – Labor Day is fast approaching and Northern Michigan is making the most of its final weeks of summer.

Here are our top five recommendations for this weekend:

The fun continues at the Emmet-Charlevoix County Fair

The Emmet-Charlevoix County Fair is in full swing at the fairgrounds in Petoskey.

There are still numerous activities planned this weekend for the fair, which ends on August 25th.

Friday’s highlights include 4-H horse shows during the day and a Monster Truck Throw Down in the grandstands at 7 p.m. Saturday will feature autocross events in the grandstands at 5 p.m. In addition, fairgoers will be treated to carnival rides and 4-H exhibits throughout the day.

Cheboygan County Humane Society hosts annual garage sale

You can support the mission of the Cheboygan County Humane Society by shopping at their annual fundraising garage sale on August 23 and 24 at the Cheboygan County Fairgrounds.

The shelter has collected items donated by local residents for sale and will have a wealth of unwanted treasures available for purchase.

Summer film series comes to an end

The Indian River Area Library will host its last outdoor movie night of the summer on August 23rd at 7:30 p.m.

The film, presented by the library and the Indian River Kiwanis Club, will be shown at the ice rink in Cooperation Park. The film will be “Kung Fu Panda 4,” and the evening will include free popcorn, snacks and bottled water.

Registration is not required and guests are asked to bring their own seating.

Michigan Paranormal Convention marks final year

Help send off the Michigan Paranormal Convention with a bang as the popular Sault Ste. Marie-based event prepares for its 14th and final year.

The congress will cover topics such as paranormal investigations, psychic powers, demonology and ufology and will feature numerous guest speakers.

The 35th Annual Mackinaw City Corvette Crossroads Auto Show Returns

Every year on the weekend before Labor Day, hundreds of Corvette fans gather to celebrate the All-American Classic at the 35th Annual Mackinaw City Corvette Crossroads Auto Show.

The show will take place on August 24 at the Straits State Harbor on South Huron Avenue and in the Mackinac Island Ferry Company parking lot from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Corvette procession will cross the Mackinac Bridge at 7 p.m.
