CENTRAL MICHIGAN (WNEM) – Another cool way to start a Thursday morning! Good morning, Mid-Michigan, the weekend is approaching. If you’re getting up with us before work or school, check out these five stories to learn more.

1. A six-year-old girl has died after being struck by a car outside the Morris Square Apartments in Mt. Morris. Police said the girl was walking with someone on a sidewalk along Saginaw Street when a black SUV turned into the street from the complex. Police said the girl ran in front of the car and was pinned underneath. The investigation is ongoing and the driver is cooperating.

2. A six-year-old boy reported missing in Mt. Pleasant has been found dead in what police are calling a murder-suicide. The boy’s mother called police Monday after his father failed to return him to her care. Investigators said the bodies of the boy and his father were found in a mobile home near his property.

3. For the first time in a decade, Central Michigan University’s enrollment is up. Last year, the university had just over 14,400 students, and numbers so far show even more enrolled for this semester. CMU’s enrollment peaked in 2014 at more than 26,000 students. Official enrollment numbers for this year will be released in mid-September.

4. The family of a Michigan teenager is suing a Detroit judge. This happened after 15-year-old Eva Goodman was on an outing with a nonprofit organization. The judge noticed she was falling asleep, called her over and ordered her to be handcuffed. The lawsuit alleges he then ordered Goodman to dress in prisoner garb, locked her up and held a mock trial while streaming the events. The judge was temporarily relieved of his duties following the incident.

5. Faster internet is on the way for rural communities in Midland County. Spectrum announced that it has completed its rural broadband expansion project, bringing internet, phone and cable service to more than 400 homes and businesses in Geneva, Greendale and Jasper townships.
