It’s Tuesday, August 27, and here are five things to know about Montgomery County. Check the weather forecast here.

1. Back to school: The new school year has begun for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS).

2. Cleaning of the leisure center: As part of the county’s recreation department’s summer cleanup, the following centers will be closed through Monday, September 2: Ross Boddy and Good Hope Neighborhood Recreation Centers, and Germantown, Lawton, Longwood, Potomac and White Oak Community Recreation Centers.

3. Council recess: The District Council is currently in recess and will resume its regular business in September.

4. Food resources: Find out about today’s food distribution campaigns in the district.

5. In case you missed it: The new school year at MCPS began on Monday. At Albert Einstein High School, the marching band, student dancers and poms opened the year before school.
