OMAHA, Nebraska (WOWT) – 6 News Daybreak has the headlines you need to know to start Thursday.

A man is in hospital due to road construction near the Benson district of Omaha

One was injured early Thursday morning after suffering a cut.

At around 4:00 a.m., Omaha Police received a 911 call regarding a male victim of slashing injuries.

A 6 News photographer reported that the victim refused transport when officers arrived.

The man then agreed to go to the hospital and was taken away in a police car.

Kirk Ferentz faces suspension

Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz and wide receivers coach Jon Budmayr will be suspended for one game.

The Athletic reports that coaches committed a recruiting violation against quarterback Cade McNamara before the transfer portal opened.

It is not clear whether the violation came from the University of Iowa or the NCAA.

Further details will be announced on Thursday at around 1:30 p.m. when Ferentz will speak.

Representative Mike Flood hosts town hall meeting in Fremont

Congressman Mike Flood holds a town hall meeting at Fremont High School’s CTE Center.

The event will take place on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

A press release states that Flood will provide updates on his work for Fremont and the entire district.

Flood will offer a question-and-answer session; the event is open to the public.

Harris wants to accept the Democratic nomination for president

Kamala Harris will accept the Democratic nomination on the final night of the DNC.

The theme for Thursday, the last evening of the congress, is “For our future”.

A campaign official said Harris wanted her speech to reveal more about her background, present her vision in comparison to her rival Trump and “evoke a sense of patriotism.”

Walz accepted his nomination Wednesday night as he reintroduced himself to the nation.

Thunderbirds arrive at Offutt Air Force Base

The Thunderbirds are coming to Bellevue to prepare for the 2024 Defenders of Freedom Air & Space Show.

They arrive at the base on Thursday around 2 p.m.

At the air show, the world-famous Thunderbirds will pay their last respects to a fallen Omaha Marine with their performance.

The Offutt air show will take place August 24-25 for the first time in six years.

Sarpy County modernizes outdoor siren system

Sirens in Sarpy County are being upgraded to better alert residents in crisis situations.

According to officials, the sirens will be replaced by “leading alarm technology.”

As part of the project, not only will sirens be replaced, but more will also be installed in the district.

There are currently around 80 sirens in use in the area.

Sirens have spare batteries and are only activated in areas at risk.
