Omaha crews battle house fire Wednesday morning

A fire broke out in an Omaha apartment building on Wednesday morning, and emergency crews responded quickly to the blaze.

It happened near 15th and Ohio Street just before 5:00 a.m.

According to officials, no one was taken to hospital.

Suspected fugitive arrested in Omaha after suspicious death in Ohio

A Wisconsin woman wanted in connection with the investigation of a death in Ohio was arrested by Omaha police on Tuesday.

The 52-year-old woman will appear in Douglas County Court at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday

Police in Ohio said her whereabouts in Nebraska were discovered through a social media post.

Using license plate readers, they were able to track their position.

After her appearance in court in Nebraska, police plan to take her to Ohio for trial.

Two people in hospital after early morning accident on I-80

Two people are recovering after a crash on I-80 Wednesday morning.

The accident occurred around 1:45 a.m. near the ILQ ramp.

The injuries of the two people involved in the accident are unlikely to be life-threatening.

Nebraska’s felons’ voting rights law goes to court

On Wednesday, the Nebraska Supreme Court will hear arguments on whether or not to disenfranchise felons.

In July, Secretary of State Bob Evnen ordered that election offices would no longer be allowed to register people who had been convicted of a crime in the past.

Attorney Mike Hilgers then issued an expert opinion and described the state law as unconstitutional.

Activists are pushing to keep the state’s law granting voting rights to convicted felons in place.

The ACLU of Nebraska and a national law firm filed the lawsuit in late July, representing the nonprofit organization Civic Nebraska and three individuals seeking to vote.

Groundbreaking ceremony for new Nebraska State Penitentiary

A groundbreaking ceremony for the Nebraska State Penitentiary will take place on Wednesday.

Governor Pillen will join NCDS in attending the event, which will take place on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m.

NCDS is building a new multi-lockdown facility to replace the state prison.

They say parts of the current facility date back to the 19th century.

The complex will have 1,500 beds and is scheduled to be completed in spring 2028.

Volleyball season in Nebraska has begun

The Nebraska volleyball season has officially begun, with many saying it is one of the most anticipated seasons in history.

Nebraska is currently ranked 2nd.

On Tuesday, Nebraska opened its season with a win over No. 9 Kentucky. They won all four sets and recorded 18 blocks.

The Huskers now return to Lincoln for their first home game on Friday.

On Sunday, a documentary titled “No Place Like Nebraska” about the Huskers volleyball program premiered.
