600-meter section of Zhukeev-Pudovkin Street has 57 manholes: Deputy Mayor on the challenges of road repair

AKIPRESS.COM – Vice-Mayor Jamalbek Irsaliev reported that there are 57 manhole covers on the section of Zhukeev-Pudovkin Street between Karasaev and Kulatov Streets. This 600-meter-long section of the road is currently closed to traffic due to road repairs.

Irsaliev noted that these manholes have been there since Soviet times. “Look inside, there are bricks at the bottom. With each repair, the road gets thicker. We installed supports to stabilize it. People ask why we can’t build the manholes at the same level with the road. Only in Kyrgyzstan do we have manholes in the middle of the road. People compare our situation with China, where the roads are repaired overnight, but there are no manholes on the road,” he said.

Irsaliev showed various manholes, including those for irrigation, heating networks and sewage, and called them problematic. “It’s as if a bomb had exploded. The abundance of manholes is overwhelming. We will raise them all and then lay a second layer of asphalt. There are complaints on the Internet about ruts in the asphalt. In this heat, not only the asphalt melts, but also our brains. As soon as we lay the asphalt, someone drives over it,” he added.

He mentioned that replacing the bricks in the sewer manholes would require turning off the water, which would cause inconvenience to residents of surrounding houses.

“We recognize the problems and are working to solve them,” concluded the deputy mayor.
