million lakeside villa to become most expensive home in Minnesota

Minnesota is home to many phenomenal and luxurious homes, but the state is not traditionally associated with glamorous and imposing lakefront mansions that sell for tens of millions of dollars.

But a magnificent estate could change Minnesota’s image as a real estate location once and for all – competing with the huge lake houses that are more commonly found on Lake Tahoe or Lake Michigan.

With an incredible price tag of $68 million, the brand new Lake Minnetonka estate is being quietly offered to potential buyers with the goal of becoming the most expensive home in the state.

And if it is sold for a price that is even close to the asking price, it will be Isaac Kuehna real estate consultant at DRG based in Minneapolis.

At the time of writing, Kuehn said the most expensive home ever sold in Minnesota was ripped off in September 2006 for $17.5 million – more than $50 million less than the sale price of this mega-mansion.

The famous Pillsbury Mansion, also on Lake Minnetonka, was offered for $24 million in 2011. It was demolished and the property divided into five individual lots before it was finally sold.

Interestingly, the state’s most lucrative offerings have all been located on lush Lake Minnetonka, west of Minneapolis. But it’s safe to say that nothing like this new 20-acre estate with 655 feet of waterfront has ever been built on its posh shores.

The complex has 29,000 square feet of living space, including eight bedrooms and 17 bathrooms, the listing says. Planning took two years and construction took five years.

The architecture appears to be an elegant blend of several design approaches, including Tudor, Chateau, contemporary, and even Prairie styles, and together they seem somewhat organic.

Natural materials such as stone and wood are used extensively. High coffered ceilings and multi-pane windows frame the home’s spectacular views.

It seems as if no expense was spared in the construction of this magnificent house.

For example, the bathroom in the master suite in the main wing features $750,000 worth of Italian marble, including a 1,400-pound carved marble bathtub, the Wall Street Journal reported. Luxury amenities include a spa with a Himalayan salt room and an entertainment area with a home theater, bowling alley, arcade, cigar lounge and wine cellar.

Since lake houses with amenities for large groups of friends and family are a tradition in Minnesota, this home is also reported to feature a bunk room with 12 beds, a show garage for eight cars, and a garage for six RVs.

Did we mention that the property is not just a summer retreat, but an elegant complex all year round?

It has two 185 m² guest houses and a boat dock for guests (in addition to the main dock for residents).

For relaxation, there is a pool and pool house, a lakeside veranda and a putting green by a pond.

And with its lakefront location, every water sport imaginable is close by, including fishing, sailing, boating, kayaking, canoeing, water skiing and tubing in the warmer months, and ice fishing, skating and snowmobiling in the winter.

The second most expensive house currently on the market in Minnesota is also located on Lake Minnetonka – on its own peninsula.

The list price is $14,750,000, it offers 849 square feet of living space, five bedrooms and 6.6 bathrooms.
