The carefree vibe of summer will soon be gone—and in its place will be rumors of cooler days, pumpkin lattes, cozy platform UGGs, and back-to-school hairstyles (yes, there are those for adults too).
When it comes to trendy hairstyles for the upcoming fall 2024 season, girls are all about blunt bobs, flirty curtain bangs à la Sabrina Carpenter, and bouncy ’90s layers. As for the hottest hair colors, professional stylists say it really is the season for warm tones.
“I see golds, coppers and warm brondes in full effect,” says Matt Rez, global colorist for Moroccanoil and right-hand man to stars like Hailey Bieber and Tate McRae.
Sierra Kener, a California-based colorist who frequently has celebs like Nina Dobrev in her salon, says how flattering warm hair can be. “Warmth throughout the body accentuates skin tones and eye colors.”
Laura Polko – ambassador for House of Frieda and stylist to Gigi Hadid and Hailee Steinfeld – agrees, naming shades like bright cherry red and golden honey blonde as trends to look out for in the coming months.
In other words? PSL season isn’t just for nostalgic, sweet-smelling drinks, it’s also for hair colors.

The Espresso Brunette
This time last year, “espresso makeup” dominated the glamour trend. This season, the same enthusiasm for the sensual shade is also being carried over to hair.
“Espresso browns will also be popular, as many people opt for darker tones in the fall,” says Polko. And as a bonus? “This color suits most skin tones.” Say hello to the dark side.

The Pumpkin Spice Copper
There has been a copper obsession for some time, with celebrity fans including Megan Fox, Sydney Sweeney, Emily Ratajkowski and many more, and Rez expects the shade to continue to be popular in the fall.
Of course, the pumpkin-inspired copper requires a fair amount of maintenance – but the result is always a *kiss from the chef*.
Kener agrees, sharing her own pro tip for maintaining vibrancy. “The leaves are changing color, our drinks have warming spices in them—copper gives that same feeling. For the tried and true blondies of the world, both hairdressing experts agree that golden tones are the trend when the weather gets cooler. “I love honey blonde,” says Polko.
Although the sun doesn’t shine quite as brightly as it does in the summer months, Rez notes that the golden hue looks radiant on all skin tones. “The golden blonde element adds a touch of brightness.”

The easy-care, soft brunette
Don’t feel like a brunette or blonde? A subtle bronde could be the answer.
“It’s going to be a big trend,” says Polko. “It’s much easier to maintain than going completely blonde and I love that it looks more natural too.”
If the waiting times between visits to the hairdresser are longer, a natural balayage coloring is just the thing.

No matter what shade of brunette you prefer, one thing is for sure: dimension is *in* this fall.
“We’re going to see a lot of darker colors with a lot of dimension,” says Polko. Say goodbye to flat colors.

Want an endless summer? Rez says many will be wearing their sun-drenched, naturally lightened hair tones well into the fall months.
“Imagine spending the summer on Bora Bora, living life to the fullest in the sea under the sun. You visit the islands with the lightest brown hair and come back in the fall with streaky blonde highlights that gradually get lighter the further down you go,” says Rez. “‘Bora Bora Bronde’ is the ultimate marriage of browns, dark blonde and the lightest blonde that looks contrasting and blended.” And spoiler: You don’t have to travel to the island to achieve this look.

Sometimes a refreshing change means going back to your roots…
“People are keeping it simple and going back to their natural tones,” says ___. “I think we’ll see people bring pictures of their hair when they were little (to the hairdresser). Our hair changes as we get older, but the tones from our youth still work beautifully.” After all, they say natural color is the most flattering of all.
