Celebrity hairstylist Julius Michael gave us tips on how to achieve this cute side-parted hairstyle that gives a lot of structure! First, he adds structure to the roots with his Voloom Hair Straightenerand then he finishes the style with a 3/4 inch curling iron to create soft waves. His top tip for short, thin hair? Don’t be afraid to experiment! He also loves flyaways because they keep the hair naturally beautiful and not so stiff and rigid!

Layered rolls

A messy bun with strands and layers framing the face is the easiest way to fake volume. If your hair is straight like mine and just doesn’t hold volume, then simply put your layers in a messy bun and pull out strands framing the face. Not only does this flatter your face shape, but it also creates the illusion of volume. Sometimes I like to put my hair in a bun and slowly start pulling out a few layers from the hair to give it a casual look. We don’t want to be straight because that makes the hair look flat. The messier the better!

Loose waves

Loose waves look incredible on short hair! And the key to more volume? Texture, texture, texture! To get that texture, buy a texture spray and spray it all over your hair. Then scrunch it, flip it over and give it a good shake. This will give it volume and prevent it from looking thin.

Structured Pixie

Wes SharptonHairdresser at Hair historygave us an expert tip if you have short hair that’s also fine and curly. He says you can mix wax and oil and use a diffuser to set the curls to give the hair more body and texture. This style looks especially great on short hair styled in a super cute, textured pixie cut like the one above!

Voluminous curls

These voluminous curls are achieved by tightly curling all of your hair. The real trick, however, is to tease the roots of your hair with a brush. When I had short hair, this was my secret weapon. I would style it with heat and then tease my whole head at the root to make sure it looked full and didn’t go flat after 30 minutes. Finally, apply some hairspray to really make it all stick together!

Funny bow/hair tie

A good hairstyle that will make your hair look full even when it’s messy is using a hair tie. Tease the roots of your hair again and pin it into a low bun with a fun hair tie. I love the one above because the big bows make the hair look big and full. This is a lazy girl hairstyle that will still make your hair look neat!

Blunt, structured bob

A blunt bob is one of my favorite hairstyles ever, but it can be really difficult to style if you thin hair. One tip for this is to sleep with little braids or buns. I twisted my short hair up a little with a clip before bed and then when I woke up I had the cutest waves that made my hair look so much fuller and voluminous. The messy look like above is a 10/10, I’m obsessed with this style.

The easiest style for short haired girls with thin hair? Bobby pins. These will save your life, especially if your hair gets into that weird in-between phase where it’s neither too long nor too short. You just take a cute bobby pin and pin it up in a half up, half down style. I like to push the bobby pin up on purpose so it adds some volume to the back of my hair. And voilà! Everything you need for an easy hairstyle that volume to your otherwise thin, flat hair!
