9 things to do in Charlotte this weekend

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – There’s nothing quite like summer days in Charlotte. Check out what’s happening in the Queen City this weekend.

Rally Fest (Rally Pickleball Charlotte), Friday 5pm to 8pm: Whether you’re an experienced pickler or have always wanted to get involved in this fast-growing sport, join us for a celebration of all things pickleball. Join hundreds of picklers for an exciting pickleball party with unique challenges, pros, and even pickle pong. The party continues with a live DJ, prizes, raffles, food and drink specials, and more. Admission is $15.

Fairies in the Forest (UNC Charlotte Outdoor Botanical Gardens), Friday 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.: Bring your wings for a magical evening at the beautiful UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens. Spot fairy dust around every corner on lighted trails, meet fairies, and have tons of fun in the woods. Don’t forget to pack your walking shoes, as this is an outdoor event. Tickets are $5 each with timed entry.

Tacos ‘N Taps (Ballantyne’s Backyard), Saturday 12pm to 5pm: Try some of the best tacos in town. Over a dozen taco trucks and restaurants will come together to give you a taste of the southern border. To wash down the delicious bites, attendees can enjoy a variety of beverages including local brews, cider, wine, tequila and margaritas. Enjoy live mariachi music, games, a competing margarita bar, games and more. Admission starts at $25.

Shop the Yard (Victoria Yards), Saturday 12pm to 6pm: Looking for a unique way to spend your afternoon? Visit the ultimate pop-up shop with over 20 local vendors selling food, jewelry, art, pet supplies and more, plus live music and games in a colorful outdoor space. If you’re still hungry, just head across the street to the Market at 7th for even more local snacks. Admission is free.

Cornelius Jazz Festival (Smithville Park), Saturday 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.: A short drive north will bring you to the smooth sounds of great local jazz. The festival was originally scheduled for May but was postponed to this weekend due to rain. Enjoy the music and atmosphere of Holly Hopkins Jazz and Jay D. Jones. You’ll also find a food truck rally as well as drinks and local vendors. Admission is free and guests can bring their own chairs and blankets.

Charlotte FC – New York FC (Bank of America Stadium), Saturday, 7:30 p.m.: Soccer is back in the Queen City as Charlotte FC takes on New York FC. Fans who arrive early can score a free limited edition CLTFC Sir Minty collectible. Tickets start at $39.

Carolina Ascent FC vs. Lexington SC (American Legion Memorial Stadium), Sunday, 2:30 p.m.: Women’s soccer has finally arrived in Charlotte with Carolina Ascent FC. After a sold-out match against DC Power in their opening game at American Legion Memorial Stadium, they will face Lexington SC in their next home game. Tickets start at $15.

Disney’s The Lion King (Belk Theater), ongoing: Experience the “Circle of Life” in Disney’s hit musical that continues to break box office records on Broadway. From beloved songs like “Hakuna Matata” and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” to the creative puppetry that has delighted millions of audiences around the world, Disney’s The Lion King is still the musical that beats all others. Tickets start at $35.

CLT Burger Week (various locations), until Sunday: It’s the final week of a delicious deal on burgers from some of the hottest restaurants in town. Choose one (or two, or more) specialty burgers from over two dozen restaurants for just $7. Restaurants include Bradshaw Social House, Ri Ra’s Charlotte, Mac’s Speed ​​Shop and more. The deals aren’t limited to the burgers, though. Many of the spots also offer drink specials.
