One of Cornwall’s best budget restaurants is closing its doors for good

One of Cornwall’s most popular and affordable restaurants has closed its doors for good. Café Bunters in Newquay announced its closure at the weekend, leaving many customers disappointed.

Bunters is a family-run, licensed, dog-friendly cafe on the city’s East Street. The relaxed eatery is known for its range of roasts, sandwiches and fish and chips, as well as desserts and cream teas.

It’s also consistently rated as one of the best cheap restaurants in Cornwall according to TripAdvisor, with customers saying “the food is really amazing” and describing it as a “great little cafe” with prices to match.

However, in a post shared on Facebook on Sunday (August 4), the owners of Bunters announced the cafe’s sudden closure, writing simply: “Bunters has closed its doors for the last time. Thank you all and goodbye.”

Other reviewers have previously praised the friendly staff, good food and cleanliness of the premises. One person previously wrote: “Nice little cafe at a reasonable price. Clean and tidy. Dog friendly. Friendly staff. Only stopped for a drink but might come back for breakfast.”

Someone else said: “The breakfast here is amazing! The perfect way to start the day. The staff are incredibly friendly and always remember me when I come in. I love chatting to them while I wait for my food and they always make me feel very welcome when I stop by. Don’t miss out on a classic English breakfast.”

Another reviewer wrote: “The place was spotlessly clean. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Excellent food. Central location. Would eat there again.”
