Like many of its competitors in the Battle Royale space, Apex Legends has stuck to the battle pass formula early in its lifecycle, rewarding players for consistent play. With various daily and weekly challenges, players can engage with the game’s multiplayer content to unlock free rewards from the battle pass, usually skins of various weapons and champions, emotes, and other various items that enhance the visual aspect of the game in some way.
However, there is always a monetized premium tier for each Battle Pass, and Apex Legends is no different. All Battle Passes had free and premium rewards, with the premium rewards being much more numerous and “exotic” compared to the free ones. Normally, to unlock the premium rewards, the player would have to purchase a premium in-game currency with real money, but that is in Season 22: Shockwave.

How to unlock Premium Battle Pass rewards for free in Season 22: Shockwave
Apex Legends is a game that respects its player base, at least more than some other games in the industry that force aggressive monetization schemes and loot boxes on players. Apex Legends also has a loot box system and a monetized store, as well as a seasonal Battle Pass. However, there has always been an opportunity for players to earn enough premium currency in each Battle Pass to unlock the next one without having to pay extra money.
Ultimately, players only had to spend money once and had unlimited access to each subsequent Battle Pass as long as they played the pass and collected all the rewards. However, in Season 22, this was changed so that players can only purchase the first shared Battle Pass with real money.
However, they have added a way for players to get the first split’s Battle Pass completely free, by simply completing a handful of challenges in a set amount of time to get all the goodies, minus some that are only available in the Premium+ tier.
If you have already purchased the Premium tier, completing these challenges will reward you with 1,000 Apex Coins.

All challenges to unlock the Premium Battle Pass in Season 22: Shockwave
Players have a time limit to unlock the Premium Battle Pass. You only have the first six weeks of this season to complete the challenges and gain access to the Premium Battle Pass. This means you have to complete all of the challenges by September 17th. However, this isn’t a huge problem as the challenges are pretty easy and require minimal effort.
- Complete 10 levels of the Battle Pass.
- Play 2 games in Trios E-District.
- Deal 1,000 damage as a Recon/Controller Legend.
- Open 15 storage containers.
- Deal 500 damage with Akimbos in BR or 1,000 damage with Akimbos in any mode.
It will only take the average player a couple of hours to complete most of these challenges. Always choose a Recon or Controller Legend, play Trios mode, and get Akimbos whenever possible to complete multiple challenges at once.
Premium+ Tier Rewards for the First Split of Season 22 Battle Pass
While you can reach the Premium tier, the Premium+ tier remains locked behind a paywall and requires $20 to obtain. It only has a few additional extras, namely two new legendary skins for Fuse and Lobaand some additional Exotic Shards. Additionally, players can play all Legends for the duration of the Battle Pass, regardless of whether they have them unlocked or not, and will receive 10 Battle Pass levels when they purchase the tier.
If you really like the new skins, this tier might be worth purchasing. However, if you’re a new player who wants to try out all the legends without having to go through the hassle of hunting for legend tokens, this tier is the perfect choice for you.
