Wayne County farm among finalists for prestigious conservation award

Humbert Farms, a family-owned operation in Wayne County for over 150 years, has been named one of three finalists for the New York State Agriculture Environmental Management-Leopold Conservation Award. Located between Rochester and Syracuse, the farm is being recognized for its efforts to preserve soil health, water quality and wildlife habitat.

Mark Humbert, who runs the 3,400-acre farm with his son Ethan and son-in-law Jacob, stressed the importance of sustainability in their farming practices. Crop rotation and minimal use of herbicides are key to their approach to ensure the land remains fertile for future generations.

The award winner will be announced later this summer and will be selected from Humbert Farms and two other finalists in Cayuga and Essex counties.
