Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis receive a standing ovation at the unveiling of “Freaky Friday 2” on D23

Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis received a standing ovation on Friday night at D23 2024 when they took the stage to give a sneak peek at the upcoming – and obviously highly anticipated – sequel to their 2003 hit “Freaky Friday.”

There are few details about the film other than that it is set to hit theaters in 2025. But one thing is certain: it is about mothers and daughters who swap bodies and have very embarrassing, perspective-rich adventures.

Or, as the logline puts it: “The film picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) are going through an identity crisis. Anna now has a daughter of her own and soon a stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come with merging two families, Tess and Anna discover that lightning really can strike twice.”

The sequel to 2003’s “Freaky Friday,” a remake of the 1976 original starring Jodie Foster, stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan again. Mark Harmon and Chad Michael Murray also reprise their roles.

They are joined by newcomers Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Manny Jacinto. Other returning cast members include Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao.

Nisha Ganatra directs, Kristin Burr, Andrew Gunn and Curtis produce, and Nathan Kelly, Ann Marie Sanderlin and Lohan serve as executive producers. Jordan Weiss wrote the screenplay.

Disney’s original Freaky Friday was based on a 1972 novel by American author Mary Rodgers. In addition to the film, it also spawned Summer Switch and A Billion for Boris, both of which focused on the mother’s husband from the original film and aired as two-part ABC afternoon specials. In 1995, it was revived for television as an episode of The Wonderful World of Disney, starring Shelley Long as the mother and Gaby Hoffman as the daughter (it was part of a season that aired remakes of several Disney classics using real actors).
