The cheapest place in Merseyside to fill up your car with petrol is a Sainsbury’s petrol station in Wirral. According to the latest data from the retailers, the driver of an average family car could save up to £6 by filling up at this petrol station, compared to the most expensive.

The Sainsbury’s petrol station at 342A Woodchurch Road in Prenton is charging motorists 138.9p per litre, meaning it costs £80 to fill an average 55-litre tank. This is based on a feed of current petrol prices compiled by the government’s Competition and Markets Authority last September. The average price of a litre of petrol in the Merseyside region this week is 141.1p.
