Warren Scott A NEW HOME — The Wellsburg Chamber of Commerce welcomed the owners and employees of Saints Roofing and Construction to their new location at 1483 Commerce St. (State Route 2). WELLSBURG – The owners of a family-owned construction company have found a new home in the town on State Route 2 and hope to help many area residents improve the look and durability of their own homes.

Members of the Wellsburg Chamber of Commerce welcomed Barry and Ruth Hicks, owners of Saints Roofing and Construction, and their employees to their new location at 1483 Commerce St.

The contracting company offers roof repairs and replacements, installation of exterior cladding, gutter repairs and removal, and other services to private and commercial customers.

Barry is a native Kentucky native and has lived in the Tri-State area for several years. He previously operated the construction company in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania, and before that in Wheeling, with his wife Ruth, a Cadiz native and graduate of Jewett-Scio High School.

Barry, who started doing home improvement at age 16, said Wellsburg was no stranger to him as he had worked on many homes there.

“We prayed for this and the Lord wanted us here,” he said.

Ruth added that their new location provides an ideal hub for serving clients in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio.

The two added that they were excited about the completion of the new Ohio River bridge connecting State Route 2 in Brooke County to State Route 7 in Jefferson County.

They were also pleased to establish a headquarters with space to showcase examples of the wide range of completed projects.

At a recent open day, Chamber members examined a wall of large photographs showing the range of their previous work.

Barry has 35 years of experience in the home improvement industry and is supported by Ruth, who serves as office manager, General Manager Dean Craft, Project Manager Barry Hicks III and approximately 16 team members.

In addition to roofs, siding and gutters, they have also coated chimneys and repaired coverings to protect homes from rain and other outside elements. They have also removed and covered chimneys where possible and practical.

They also performed the inspection services required for insurance claims and installed skylights and solar panels.

Barry said the latter had primarily been of interest to commercial businesses, but had recently been extended to include private customers.

He said that regardless of the structure, solar panels can result in large savings on heating costs and their investment will pay for itself five to 10 years after they are installed.

They can also work with customers to secure appropriate financing and participate in the GAF Master Elite Gold Pledge Warranty program, which offers a 50-year warranty on the materials provided by the roofing shingle manufacturer and a 25-year warranty on the workmanship.

Barry pointed out that the warranties are transferable to a new owner should the building be sold.

He and Ruth said they try to build a relationship with their clients and create trust that can be carried over to potential future projects.

They said their Christian faith played a big role in their business and its development.

Barry said the company name was inspired by its biblical meaning, while the colors of the logo – red, blue and white – represented the blood shed by Christ, the blue sky and the path to purity that Christians are to follow.
