Yolo County offers free training for school crossing guards – Daily Democrat

The Yolo County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Program will conduct several trainings for school crossing guards in August and September.

These free training courses are open to anyone, but focus on supporting those who work or volunteer as school crossing guards. Participants learn about the roles and responsibilities of school crossing guards, relevant laws and traffic regulations, and correct crossing technique.

School crossing guards are critical to creating a safe environment for students who walk or bike to and from school. The Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Program follows the School Crossing Guard Training Guidelines developed by the California Department of Transportation’s Active Transportation Resource Center, which provides standardized training for school crossing guards.

There are eight ways to participate, including six face-to-face training sessions and two virtual training sessions:

  • Wednesday, August 14, 2024, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., Community Room, 500 Jefferson Blvd., West Sacramento, CA 95605
  • Friday, August 23, 2024, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Blanchard Room, Mary L. Stephens Library, 315 E 14th St., Davis, CA 95616
  • Tuesday, August 27, 2024, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., virtual participation at: tinyurl.com/CrossingGuardTrainingAugust
  • Thursday, August 29, 2024, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., Parsons Room, Winters Community Library, 708 Railroad Ave., Winters, CA 95694
