Cash App reaches agreement with Google Play

There is some interesting news for Cash App users today as the company has settled a class action lawsuit that could entitle Cash App users to up to $2,500.

According to CNET, “The plaintiffs in the lawsuit allege that Block and Cash App acted negligently when a former Cash App Investing employee accessed account data without permission in 2022 and when an unauthorized user accessed certain Cash App accounts in 2023 by using reused phone numbers associated with the accounts.”

As a result, anyone who has used Cash App in the past six years and had their personal information accessed or funds transferred without consent can file a lawsuit. You can find all additional information on the Cash App settlement website.

Cash App application forms are available online and must be completed and submitted no later than November 18, 2024 (date posted on the portal website).

In other Cash App news, just last month the company announced its integration with Google Play, allowing Android users to use Cash App Pay to transact on the platform. This partnership provides a streamlined payment option for purchasing apps, games, music, movies, books, and more. Google Play’s Pete Albers emphasized that integrating Cash App Pay into payment options improves user choice and convenience and reflects consumers’ evolving payment preferences.

The integration meets the growing demand for alternative payment solutions, especially among younger shoppers who prefer flexible payment methods. Cash App Pay, which allows users to pay with their Cash App balance or a linked debit card, fits this trend. Cash App’s Tanuj Parikh noted that the partnership not only meets the need for diverse payment options but also expands the utility of mobile payments. As Cash App Pay’s user base has grown to 4 million monthly active users, this move represents a significant step in expanding payment options on Google Play.
