Three fighters miss their weight, confirming the claims of the “worst card of the year”

Tonight’s lackluster UFC Vegas 95 event, billed as the “worst” event of the year so far, suffered another setback overnight, with three separate bouts featuring skewed weight errors at an event already in the spotlight.

The UFC returns to North America tonight after a guest appearance in Abu Dhabi. Last weekend, it hosted an impressive fight schedule in the Middle East, culminating in a title eliminator between Umar Nurmagomedov and Cory Sandhagen.

Still, tonight’s ten-fight event at the Apex facility has drawn a lot of criticism over the course of this week, with the highlight of the event being a four-year-old warmed-over rematch between European heavyweight greats Marcin Tybura and Serghei Spivac.

The event features a lot of names known only to die-hard fans, but only one former title contender is present – former Invicta FC star Yana Santos, who lost a first-round knockout to Cris Cyborg in an unsuccessful featherweight championship fight at UFC 222.

And at the official weigh-in yesterday, three fighters missed their respective weight class limits ahead of UFC Vegas 95, resulting in three catchweight bouts.

First, Chelsea Chandler was scheduled to face the aforementioned Santos in her return, but she missed the bantamweight limit for the second year in a row, coming in at 141 pounds, resulting in a catchweight bout.

In addition, on the same main card, Danny Barlow failed to make the non-title welterweight limit in his fight against Nikolay Veretenitkov, coming in at 171.25 pounds.

And as the evening’s co-headliner, Chepe Mariscal came in at 149.5 pounds for his scheduled featherweight bout against Damon Jackson, forcing another catchweight bout – making the already lackluster and criticized UFC Vegas 95 fights even worse.

In their first meeting of 2020 on the UFC Fight Night Norfolk card, Polish challenger Tybura picked up a unanimous decision victory over Spivac as part of a five-fight winning streak that began that evening in Virginia.
