ND Health and Human Services announces partnership with Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation

BISMARCK, ND (KFYR) – North Dakota Health and Human Services (HHS) announced its partnership with addiction treatment organization Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation to provide up-to-date addiction medicine training.

According to HHS, the new training will help them meet new requirements set by the American Society of Addiction Medicine. The new training is designed to help providers better treat behavioral and mental health disorders, as well as addictions.

“Physicians will be aware of the new standards and up to date with the latest research and evidence-based practice, which will lead to better outcomes for individuals seeking addiction treatment,” said James Knopik, ND HHS Behavioral Health Manager.

According to HHS, Hazelden is conducting the training, which has already begun.

“Many of the care agencies that serve the people of North Dakota are becoming part of this process and having an ongoing dialogue with folks in the state like James. This is really exciting because people don’t usually get that much of a voice, and I think it will ultimately lead to better care for the citizens of North Dakota,” said Don Bartosik, ASAM manager for the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation.

According to HHS, the company’s updated criteria were published in October 2023. Before that, it said the last update was in 2013.
