Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance will visit Byron Center near Grand Rapids on Wednesday. It will be his third appearance in Michigan since he was nominated as Donald Trump’s vice presidential candidate, underscoring the state’s role as an important swing state in the 2024 presidential election.

Vance will speak at Cordes Inc., a family-owned industrial transportation company located at 10100 Sedroc Industrial Drive.

Vance’s appearance near Michigan’s second-largest city came a week after he visited Macomb County, where he spoke to an audience at the Shelby Township Police Department that consisted mostly of members of the press and senior Republican officials. In that speech, Vance focused on immigration and policing and attacked Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris and her newly chosen running mate Tim Walz.

It is unclear what Vance will speak about, but in a press release announcing the appearance, the campaign continued its messaging on crime, inflation and immigration, blaming Harris and Walz for the issues.

According to the campaign website, doors will open at 11 a.m. and Vance will begin speaking at 2 p.m. This will be Vance’s second campaign appearance in western Michigan; he attended a rally with Trump in Grand Rapids on July 20.

Harris and Walz campaigned together in Michigan on Wednesday and Thursday as part of a multi-state tour to promote Walz as their vice presidential candidate.
