Road repairs: 2,000 km of roads in Bhopal need urgent repairs | Bhopal News

Bhopal: There is significant road damage in the state capital; about 2,000 kilometers of roads need to be repaired due to the heavy rains in July.
The current focus is on filling potholes with cement and gravel. A complete re-laying of the bitumen is not yet done, according to Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the building authority (People with disabilities), which have been tasked with solving this problem during the current drought period.
Due to the recent heavy rains, more than half of Bhopal’s roads (about 4,900 kilometers) have been damaged. Both the main roads and the roads of local settlements need immediate repairs. The areas particularly affected are Hamidia Road, Anand Nagar, Indrapuri, Kolar and Karond. The roads in the old city, such as Hoshangabad Road and Ashoka Garden, are also in poor condition.
At a meeting earlier this week, it was decided that BMC and PWD officials and the BMC commissioner should expedite the repair work. Though there may be rain till the end of August, they were directed to make the most of the current dry spell.
According to reports, repair work has started, especially on major roads under PWD and BMC, including stretches from Bairagarh to Misrod, VIP Road and Ginnauri Road. Confirming the start of repair work, Narayan said, “Repair work on corporation roads has started.”
Many other roads that require immediate attention are JK Road, Danish Kunj, Char Imli, Shyamala Hills and Link Road 1. The stretch from ITI to Anand Nagar on Raisen Road is in noticeably bad shape. In addition, Jehangirabad, Jinsi Chauraha and Pul Bogda are also in a deteriorating condition.
In other areas, the road leading from Char Imli to Tulsi Tower is damaged and Hoshangabad Road is still full of potholes despite the work on the BRTS project continuing till June. The road before Bawadia Kalan Bridge is full of potholes, affecting areas like Bawadia Kalan, Salaiya, Laharpur and Katara.
Authorities are under pressure to quickly improve road conditions to ensure smoother traffic and greater safety for residents. The temporary measures aim to prevent further damage until comprehensive repairs can be carried out in September.
