Apple’s own password manager works on iOS, iPad, Mac and yes, even Windows

KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 – During Apple’s WWDC 2024 keynote, a new password manager app was briefly mentioned in their macOS segment. Creatively named “Passwords”, it is a standalone password manager that lets you manage all your passwords and passkeys not only on your Mac, but also on your phone, tablet and even Windows devices.

According to Apple, Passwords is based on Keychain, the password management system for macOS that was introduced 25 years ago. Passwords makes it easy for you to access all of your login information, such as website logins, Wi-Fi passwords, and two-factor verification codes – all through one app, stored securely in Keychain. Additionally, Passwords notifies users when it detects common vulnerabilities, such as easy-to-guess passwords, passwords used multiple times, or if your password was part of a known data breach.

The Passwords app will be available as a free software update for Mac, iPad, iPhone, and Vision Pro this fall. In fact, even Windows users—presumably those who also use an iPhone or iPad—can use Passwords through the iCloud app for Windows. There’s a good reason for you to switch to Password, too: Some password managers, like LastPass, have struggled with data leaks and security issues in the past.

Unfortunately for Android users, there is currently no mention of passwords being available there, so if you use an Android device daily, you may want to keep your password manager subscription for now. – SoyaCincau
