Days later, the pop star seemed to acknowledge Lively’s stylish tribute. In an Instagram post on Saturday, August 10, the singer wore a similarly sparkly — albeit much shorter — dress, which she captioned as an “UPDATED VERSION OF MY VERSACE DRESS FROM 2002 👗 !!!”

The “Gimme More” singer paired the “modern” dress with nude pumps and dainty jewelry while dancing to “Your Love” by The Outfield in true Spears style.

With its colorful, embellished flowers around the waist, the dress was the perfect choice for the floral clothing that Lively has been It ends with us press tour – a reference to her character Lily Bloom, who owns a flower shop.

It was also, she said, a direct nod to Spears – who also appears in the book adaptation. A cover of the pop star’s song “Everytime,” sung by Ethel Cain, is included in the star-studded soundtrack – and Spears received a special mention in the credits.

Lively elaborated on Spears’ influence on her filmmaking – and her decision to wear the Versace dress – in an Instagram Stories post on Tuesday, leaving the “Oops!…I Did It Again” singer a sweet message.

Alongside a photo of Spears in a 2002 Versace dress, the actress wrote: “The mood of today. The ultimate queen who made us all shine and made us write and share our stories.”

“Britney, all of us millennials have a story of a moment or years where you made us shine and awe with strength, joy and incredible hard work,” Lively continued. “Thank you for your example and contribution to women telling their stories.”
