Can I vote without a voting card and what do I do if I lose my voting card or it hasn’t arrived?

Britons will head to the polls today (4 July) to vote in the first general election since 2019.

Those who have registered to vote should already have received their voting notifications, which will include information such as the location of their local polling station.

It is also a good idea to take your voting notification and photo ID with you to the polling station.

Here’s more information about what your voter notification means on Election Day and how to determine if you’re registered to vote if your voter notification hasn’t arrived.

Can I vote without a ballot paper?

You can, but if you bring your card with you the process may go a little faster.

If you don’t have these, all you need to remember is your name, address and ID.

At the polling station, staff will ask you for your details, check your photo ID before removing your name from the list, and stamp your ballot.

You will then be given the ballot paper with the candidates for your constituency.

What can I do if I have lost my voting notification or it has not arrived?

If you are registered to vote, you should have received or will receive a voting notice by now telling you where to go to cast your vote.

If you have not received a voter notification, you should contact the Elections Office. However, you do not need to present your voter notification on Election Day to vote as long as you are registered and have photo ID with you.

Polling stations are open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Upon arrival, you will be asked to confirm your name, address and ID.

You will receive a ballot paper on which you must mark a cross to the right of the candidate you wish to vote for.

How do I find the nearest polling station without a voting notification?

If you don’t have the map and don’t know where your nearest polling station is, visit wheredoivote.co.uk and enter your postcode to find the address of your nearest polling station.

How do I know if I am registered to vote?

If you have not received a voter notification but believe you should receive one, or if you are otherwise unsure whether you are already registered to vote, contact your local election office.

There you will find out whether you are registered on the electoral roll. If this is the case and you can show photo ID on election day, you can vote without a voting notification.
