SOUTH BEND, Ind. – For the second time this week, Padres No. 1 prospect Ethan Salas left the field with a home run to help the TinCaps to a 4-3 victory over the South Bend Cubs Friday night at Four Winds Field. Fort Wayne has won four straight games and nine straight games against South Bend since May.

The TinCaps took an early lead when Ethan Long scored Devin Ortiz with a double in the second inning. The offense remained strong when Nick Vogt scored Long with a double. The extra-base hit put Fort Wayne (16-24, 44-62) ahead of South Bend (13-27, 40-66) 2-0 in the second inning. Ortiz, Long and Vogt each had two hits.

In the sixth inning, Kai Murphy hit a double to open the inning. Murphy leads the team with 22 doubles on the season – fourth most in the Midwest League. The next batter, Salas, hit a two-run bomb to give the TinCaps a 4-1 lead. It’s the catcher’s second home run of the week and his fourth consecutive game with an extra-base hit.

On the mound, Isaiah Lowe (Padres prospect No. 13) pitched five innings without allowing an earned run and had four strikeouts. In his High-A debut, Harry Gustin pitched two scoreless innings out of the bullpen without allowing a baserunner in the sixth and seventh innings. Manuel Castro finished the game with four outs, earning his ninth save of the season — third-most in the league.
