The Broncos have undergone a dramatic transformation at the quarterback position given the large sums spent on Russell Wilson, only to let him go after two seasons that ended with a 5-12 record in 2022 and an 8-9 record in 2023. Wilson now makes way for a quarterback competition that could end with rookie No. 12 overall pick Bo Nix at quarterback. The preseason opener could be valuable for Nix or veterans Zach Wilson and Jarrett Stidham to improve their chances for the job.

The Colts are entering the second year of the Anthony Richardson era at quarterback after a rookie year in which the first-round pick (No. 4 overall) in the 2023 NFL Draft showed flashes of potential but was limited to four games due to a shoulder injury suffered in a Week 5 win over the Tennessee Titans. Indy remained in the running for a playoff spot with backup Gardner Minshew at quarterback, but ultimately fell short, finishing 9-8.
