Already in February 2022 MEGADETH guitarist Chris Poland confirmed to Sofa King Cool that the song “Liar” from the band’s 1988 album “So far, so good… so what?” was written by Dave Mustaine about him. He said, “Oh yes. Obviously, Dave was very mad at me when I left the band – basically when he fired me.”
When asked if he was angry when he first heard that he was the lyrical inspiration for the song, Poland said, “No, man. That’s like the pot calling the kettle black, man. When you point your finger, man, three point back at you. I just rolled my eyes and was like, ‘Really?'”
Poland was a member of MEGADETH from 1984 to 1987, during which time he worked on the band’s classic albums “Killing is my business… and business is good!” And “Peace sells… but who buys it?” He is also a soloist on the group’s 2004 album, “The system has failed”.
In 2004 Poland and/or his management and attorney have filed suit against Mustaine on the use of the three “Rust in Peace” Demos on the new edition of the album without Chris‘s permission. According to MEGADETHWebmaster of, Mustaine recorded the demos because he thought Chris would be “grateful for the promotion, the tip of the hat and for showing the fans how Marty (Friedman, MEGADETH‘s guitarist during some of the post-Poland years) was actually influenced by some Chris‘s solo selection for these songs.” Chris allegedly also tried to sue Dave for defamation, because Dave called him a “thief”, but ChrisThe lawyer dropped the case after finding out that Chris actually took the band’s equipment and sold it for drugs,” said MEGADETH‘s Webmaster. “Remember, there is a confession in the VH1 “Behind the Music” To MEGADETH,” said the webmaster. Chris finally settled for $9,500 and ended a professional relationship with Dave And MEGADETH.

“There was a tiny little mountain right in front of our house, and I said I might as well have bought that piece of land there rather than selling it. Chris‘s friendship, and I’m so disappointed that this happened,” Mustaine added. “Because I thought it would have been great to have him on the record. (When) people say, ‘Hey, that sounds like Marty Friedman.’ NO, Marty Friedman sounded like that because Chris played it first.”

So what?” And I’m like, “What do you mean, ‘So what?'” “Well, Dave thought you were doing it for the fans.’ I said, ‘Okay. Are all the other people who played on the demo doing it for the fans? Are they getting paid?’ He said, ‘Christhat’s not what this is about.’ I said, ‘Listen, man, we have to do something here. I’m not just going to walk away. I love the fans, but I’m just not going to do it. If everybody else is getting a royalty for this, I want one too.’ I want everyone to know that it wasn’t a harassment suit, it wasn’t anything like that. I tried everything to find a solution and they just ignored me.”

Finnish guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari tied together MEGADETH last September, after the band’s long-time guitarist Kiko Loureiroannounced earlier this month that it would enter the next round of MEGADETH‘S “Destroy the world” Tour to stay at home with his children in Finland. It was later announced that Mäntysaari would continue playing guitar for MEGADETH for the foreseeable future with Loureiro apparently with no plans to return.
The 37-year-old Mäntysaari was born in Tampere, Finland and started playing guitar at the age of 12. In 2004 he joined the band WINTER SUNHe is also a member of SMACKBOUND since 2015.
MEGADETH played his first concert with Mäntysaari on September 6, 2023 at Revel in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Loureiro officially joined MEGADETH in April 2015, about five months after Chris BroderickLeaving the group.
