Table conversations are becoming more demanding

Saturday at Table Talk, William Pankratz of Games By James started by telling us what’s new in the store. Williams says they’ve started picking up some GenCon releases like Gnome Hollow, Cities, and Dungeon Cart.

Also present were Jeremy, EthanAnd Frosted Co-founders of Minneapolis-based Sophisticated Cerberus Games, they were on hand to discuss their latest game on Kickstarter titled Sprocketforge, which was developed by Ananda Guneratnewho is also from Minneapolis. Sprocketforge is an engine building game for 1-5 players that lasts about 90 minutes. It has some interlocking gears that you move each turn to unlock different things. Jeremy said they met Ananda at a convention and the table presence of Sprocketforge drew them there.

Matt said that in addition to the gears, what everyone likes is that players can do something on each turn. Once one player chooses an action, everyone else can choose a secondary action/ability. He said the exhaust mechanic is an additional feature that people who have played the game like. You have until August 15th to back Sprocketforge on Kickstarter.

We also talked about their first game, The Stifling Dark. Created by Jeremy, Ethan, and Matt, Stifling Dark is a hidden movement horror game where one competes against many. They said Stifling Dark was also called the flashlight game because of the acrylic pieces that players use to track their line of sight.

Table Talk also learned about Sophisticated Cerberus’ next game, titled “The Final Straw.” Jeremy, Ethan, and Matt say it lets you be different animal factions and has cards that allow you to create barriers that prevent others from destroying your base. The game uses unique cards that are bent with a 45-degree fold to create the barriers. You can click this link for “The Final Straw” to be notified when it hits Kickstarter.

We ended the show by talking to the team at Sophisticated Cerberus about the history of their company and what games they are currently playing and really enjoying.
