Quirk says maintenance must be a priority
An Onchan commissioner has called on the Department of Infrastructure to repair bus stops as some of the bus stops in his area are a “disgrace”.
David Quirk believes maintenance must be a priority in the department’s future transport strategy.
He contacted Manx Radio’s Mannin Line to raise concerns about problems with two shelters, including one in Port Jack, and was told there was no money to repair them:
In response, the Ministry of Infrastructure says: “has an ongoing annual program of bus shelter repairs (or replacements) and accessibility improvements. Repairs range from seat replacement to powder coating panels to a completely new unit.
“The list of works is agreed annually, with the Department weighing up the priority of each site based on structure, accessibility and cost. It is also influenced by surrounding infrastructure, utilities or land ownership, and the level of disruption to the public and businesses.
“The affected shelters are not on the construction list for this year, but will be considered for next year.”
