Stephen Pearcy is no longer interested in Ratt’s “Hair Metal” label

Stephen Pearcy doesn’t mind being associated with “hair metal.”

“The term ‘hair metal’? It doesn’t bother me in the slightest, although it does bother some of my peers,” the Ratt singer wrote in a recent tweet. “‘Hair metal’, think about it. I’ll still accept the term 40 years later. Hey, it tags you with the 80s genre forever.”

“Nah, I would never accept the term ‘hair metal’ as it was specifically created to marginalize an entire genre of really talented musicians. It’s all about the music, not the hair,” wrote one user in response to the rocker.

Pearcy responded, “If you’re in the business, aren’t you going to get played on Hair Nation or do shows with the term hair in them because of the term? I don’t mind because we created Ratt n’ Roll and that’s ours regardless of the affiliation. To be clear, it’s all rock music unless you need it…”

The frontman finds ’80s music very special. “Our shows now feature parents and their kids. Your kids are doing it right, OK? I’m featuring them because there’s a lot of crap out there that you can just throw out if it sticks,” Pearcy recently told 95.5 KLOS.

Then he talked about the ’80s: “But that kind of music… ’80s music is really special, not because we were like those guys or 4Runner guys or anything. I mean the real stuff. We came from the Strip. There’s never been anything like it before and there never will be again.”

The musician believes the music of the ’80s was better, but says bands from that era should respect each other and put aside old grudges. “Life is short, man, and a lot of us are dying like flies. And you have to remember, that was 40 years ago. Those who are still around should respect each other,” Stephen said in a separate interview.

Pearcy is currently on the road on his Back in the Cellar tour. In the next few days he will perform in St. Charles, Louisville, Las Vegas and Branson.
