Cheap Chalets Singapore (2019) – Downtown East, Changi and SAFRA Chalet booking from 103 USD per night

Cheap Chalets Singapore (2019) – Downtown East, Changi and SAFRA Chalet booking from 103 USD per night

Hands up if you have fond memories of June or December holidays spent in a chalet in Singapore and spending the afternoons cycling in East Coast Park. Later, in secondary school, school groups would rent chalets during the holidays to celebrate the end of N or O levels. And who hasn’t been invited to a 21st birthday party in a chalet?

Cheap chalets in Singapore are particularly popular with teenagers, as for the price of a night in a downtown hotel, you can potentially get a night in a large seaside bungalow.

If you split the price between a group of 20-30 people, a stay in the chalet can be as little as $10 per person per night… assuming some don’t mind sleeping in a sleeping bag on the floor.

But young punks don’t have the exclusive right to a cheap holiday in bungalow-sized chalets. If you fancy a holiday at home, these chalets are a cost-effective option.

D’Resort @ Downtown East (off-peak rates from $103 per night)

This Pasir Ris chalet is located in the Downtown East area, which is perfect if you want to go cycling in East Coast Park or hang out with the local gangs in the area (just kidding, there are also kid-friendly activities like Wild Wild Wet).

Unlike the East Coast chalets of yore, D’Resort actually looks reasonably modern. However, most of the rooms are more like regular hotel suites than chalets, so if you book the cheapest room, you won’t be able to accommodate more than two people.

The Rainforest Room is available from USD 180 per night in December 2019 (high season), but can be reduced to USD 102.70 outside of high season.

They have family-oriented rooms with a queen bed and a bunk bed starting at $280.50 per night in December 2019. Cribs are also available, which is ideal for families with young babies. Last time we checked, rooms were limited. Call to check available dates.

CSC @ Changi (off-peak rates from USD 225 per night)

CSC stands for Civil Service Club, but for the majority of Singaporeans who are not in the civil service, these are still good places for cheap chalets, bowling and KTV.

They operate two chalets in Changi, CSC Changi I and CSC Changi II, formerly known as Aloha Changi Chalet. The cheapest chalets are in Changi I. Changi II mainly operates cottages and seaside chalets, which are more expensive. CSC also operates Aloha Loyang Chalet.

Many of these chalets have real sea views and, although simply furnished, are very spacious and a good base if you want to explore the Changi area.

If you are a civil servant, you get reduced rates, yay! The price list can be found on the official CSC website.

Please note that chalet bookings are open to the public up to 60 days in advance, meaning you cannot plan more than 2 months in advance.

NSRCC Chalet (off-peak rates from $227 per night)

These bungalows can only be booked by current and former NSmen who have registered as members of the NSRCC (National Service Resort and Country Club).

The prices shown are for the public, and although the fares are already quite affordable, NSRCC members receive further discounts ($115 off-peak, $278 during peak).

NSRCC members also have priority and can book up to 6 months in advance (instead of the usual 5 months), meaning non-NSRCC members may have a difficult time getting a spot during peak season.

But it’s probably more worthwhile to buy it off-peak anyway, because the price difference between peak and off-peak times is quite large, almost doubling.

In addition to NSRCC members, SAFRA members and NSmen also receive preferential rates, while ordinary Singapore citizens pay less than non-citizens. The prices shown in the table are for ordinary Singapore citizens.

Honestly, this SAFRA chalet looks pretty sweet. It’s super spacious, equipped with lovely big windows that offer a view of the greenery that most of us don’t have at home, and the design and furnishings are pleasant and tasteful. This makes it very tempting to persuade the men in your household to take out an NSRCC membership.

The Chevrons Chalet (off-season rates from USD 220 per night)

No, your eyes are not deceiving you. Unlike all the other chalets on this list, Chevrons Chalet is actually located in the west, proving (more or less) that Eastern Europeans aren’t the only ones who can claim their end of the island is the best.

The Chevrons are a club for SAF warrant officers and specialists who receive special rates (from $120/night outside peak season), but the double-storey chalets can also be booked by the public.

Each chalet has access to and views of the swimming pool and is also equipped with a Mahjong table, although you must bring your own tiles.

Aranda Country Club (off-season rates from USD 400 per night)

One of the biggest attractions at Aranda Country Club is the Ten Dollar Club KTV lounge on the premises. If you rent one of their rooms, you can stumble into bed right after a drunken Jay Chou singing session.

And since it’s also a Downtown East chalet, you can enjoy the sun, sand and sea during the day too. The chalet is also right next to Wild Wild Wet.

As a member of Aranda Country Club or NTUC you will receive discounted rates. For the full price list please visit the Aranda website.
