Travel expert reveals ticket trick for cheap flights on last-minute holidays

If you’re looking for a last-minute summer holiday deal, a travel expert has some top tips that will help you save a ton of money.

Hidden fees can often drive up the price of your vacation, but Gavin Lapidus, director of eShores, has revealed some lesser-known tricks to keep costs down.

According to Lapidus, flights between Monday and Wednesday are usually cheaper, and shifting travel dates by just one day can reduce costs by 20 percent. But there are other ways to get cheap flights and save on baggage costs, reports the Mirror.

Consider booking one-way tickets

While this doesn’t mean you have to buy a single ticket and emigrate, it could be a smart way to save money on flights. Instead of a round-trip flight, why not book two single tickets?

This gives you the flexibility to combine different airlines, so you are not tied to one airline and its prices. You have more flight options to choose from, at different times of the day, to suit you.

Remember to check each airline’s baggage policy to make sure they are consistent.

If you are looking to upgrade your luggage before your next trip, luxury suitcase brand Antler is in the final days of its big summer sale with up to 40% discount on hand luggageIt includes £68 off the best-selling Clifton cabin bagwhich is the perfect size for use as hand luggage on Jet2 and TUI flights and can also be used as “large hand luggage” for Ryanair and EasyJet.

Buy luggage at the right time

When it comes to luggage, it is common knowledge that flight prices can vary greatly, as can the cost of luggage. eShores found that Ryanair, for example, offers its customers the option to purchase a priority ticket that includes one piece of cabin luggage and 10kg of hand luggage.

The cost of this package can range from £6 to £24, depending on when you book and how many people have already chosen this option. If you don’t want to spend a fortune on luggage, it may be more economical to buy the 10kg suitcase when you book your flight.

Conversely, on less busy flights, the deal you get at check-in for the Priority package may be significantly cheaper than the one you were first offered, assuming there are still seats available on the plane. So it’s worth considering how busy your flight is likely to be when purchasing extra baggage.

Technical considerations

When planning your vacation, it’s a good idea to compare prices from different search engines. For example, you can use multiple flight search engines to search for flights and set price alerts on your phone to notify you when the price of your chosen route drops.

Another useful tool is a browser extension that allows you to track flight prices, find deals, and search for coupon or discount codes. Using social media should also be considered.

Consider joining Facebook and Twitter groups and subscribing to newsletters, as companies often send out discount codes. Following these tips will increase your chances of getting cheaper flights, leaving you with more money for your vacation.
