MARIETTA – The Washington County Career Center’s vocational training program has been expanded to include basic paramedic training.

The training is available to individuals ages 18 and older who do not have a high school diploma or GED.

“This supplement gives people without a degree the opportunity to receive free training in another sought-after professional field,” said Ashli Diamond, program coordinator at Aspire. “Our program supports people aged 18 and over and offers them a path to success. We will be with them every step of the way.”

The next 16-week EMT Basic Course begins September 16 with classes from 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday and eight classes from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Upon successful completion of the course, the graduate is eligible to take the National Registry Cognitive and Practical Skills Exam. Upon passing the exam, the graduate becomes a National Registry and Ohio certified paramedic.

Aspire offers three options to help Ohio residents who have not completed high school obtain their Ohio high school diploma.

One of these pathways is the Adult Diploma program, a free initiative that provides vocational training and a path to earning a high school diploma through ACT WorkKeys scores. Students can choose the educational option that best fits their career goals.

Training opportunities offered by the ASPIRE program include certified nursing assistant, EMT basic, fiber optic technician, phlebotomy, medical assistant, medical billing and coding, CDL Class A, HVAC/R, clerical office skills specialist, and welding.
