Emergency aid is available for homeowners affected by storms

ALLEGANY COUNTY, NY (WKBW) – Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that emergency assistance will be made available to homeowners affected by the remnants of Hurricane Debby.

As the storm moved north, areas of New York and northern Pennsylvania were hit hard by heavy rains, flooding, and tornadoes.

New York Homes and Community Renewal is launching an emergency repair program for homeowners in storm-affected Allegany, Delaware, Franklin, Steuben and St. Lawrence counties. Under this program, homeowners in these counties will be eligible to receive $50,000 in grants to fund qualified repairs to damage caused by the storm that is not covered by insurance.

In addition, New York State Department of Financial Services staff will be deployed to affected communities to assist residents and businesses with financial services issues.

“State agencies have teams on the ground helping to clean up the damage, and we are working with our local partners as they begin damage assessments,” said Governor Hochul. “We will continue to provide rapid assistance to affected residents and communities as these communities rebuild following the devastating impact of Hurricane Debby.”

Homeowners in other counties may also be eligible as state and local recovery agencies conduct damage assessments in the coming days.
