Jacoby Brissett stable, Drake Maye again inconsistent

FOXBOROUGH — Each day during training camp, we’ll provide a quick look at the quarterbacks and their progress. With the understanding that all stats must be viewed in context, here’s a look at their performance on Sunday:

Jacoby Brissett: Another solid, solid performance from the veteran, who hit 9-of-12 in 11-on-11 games and 6-of-10 in 7-on-7 games. He threw touchdown passes to Jalen Reagor and KJ Osborn in 7-on-7 games in the red zone, the latter perhaps his best throw of the day in a ridiculously tight window. He did get one pass intercepted by Matthew Judon in 11-on-11 games, but he completed three consecutive passes to Demario Douglas (who was easily the best receiver on the field) right after that.

Drake May: The rookie had another up-and-down day, finishing 11-of-19 in 11-on-11 drills and 7-of-10 in 7-on-7 drills. In the 11-on-11 drill, he had an interception (Armon Watts intercepted the deflected ball) as well as two drops (one from tight end Mitchell Wilcox and another from Ja’Lynn Polk). In red zone drills, he had a nice touchdown pass to La’Michael Pettway. Maye and Polk teamed up for an excellent pass that saw Maye hit Polk on the run while he threw on the run. Meanwhile, in 7-on-7 drills, he also meshed with Douglas, finishing the day as the offensive leader in a two-minute drill that ended with a Joey Slye field goal.

Joe Milton: Not much work in team practices for Milton, who went 0 of 2 in 11-on-11 drills and 3 of 4 in 7-on-7 drills. It was notable that Mayo did not sound thrilled with Milton’s ball security Thursday night against the Panthers. “Just seeing Joe running around and seeing his athleticism is always a welcome sight. That said, there are still things he needs to work on,” Mayo said before Sunday’s practice. “One thing would be ball security. I know it looked cool, but it’s always dangerous to swing the ball around like that, but this is a guy that works hard every day and gets better.”

Bailey Zappe: It was also a quiet day for Zappe: He managed 0 of 1 in 11-on-11 drills and 3 of 4 (with one drop) in 7-on-7 passing drills.
