Explosion rocks APP secretariat in Rivers

A dynamite explosion rocked the Action People’s Party secretariat along the GRA axis of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Monday morning.

It was determined that the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning, at exactly 1am.

The attackers are believed to have thrown dynamite into the Secretariat building, destroying windows and doors. Other party property was also destroyed.

This came amid speculation that the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, is planning to join his supporters in switching to the APP after his predecessor and estranged political godfather, Nyesom Wike, allegedly hijacked the Peoples Democratic Party in the state.

Our correspondent who was at the scene reports that the ceiling and furnishings of the building were also destroyed, while some party officials were seen discussing the development.

A party official, who did not want to reveal his identity to our reporter, said the incident was politically motivated.

He explained: “Yes, I am a member of the APP. I was informed about the attack at around 3am today.

“This is politically motivated, there is no doubt about it. You know that APP is a fast-growing political party in the state. We request the police to investigate this and arrest the culprits.”

When we contacted the state police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, she said she was not yet aware of the incident but promised to look into it and then get back to our correspondent.
