The Repair Shop star Steve Fletcher has shared an exciting update on the upcoming season of the show. In a video shared on Instagram, the watchmaker revealed that his son Fred will be returning in the new series, but this time he’ll have to repair his very own object!
Standing next to his son in front of the barn, Steve told fans: “So, Fred is down in the barn at the moment. He’s doing his own thing and he’s doing very, very well.”
Fred chimed in and said, “It’s very exciting!”
Proud dad Steve added: “He’s a real natural! It’s all very exciting and he’s done very, very well. Well done.”
The expert confirmed the announcement in the caption, writing: “Look who’s back at @therepairshoptv! My son and apprentice, @fredfletcher.clocks, has his own object to repair this time, and he does a great job with it. Very proud!”
© Photo: BBCIt’s safe to say fans were overjoyed by the news, with one sharing their excitement for the new episode: “This is fabulous. I’m looking forward to watching this episode,” while another added: “Wonderful! So great to know the skills will be carried over to the next generation.”
The update comes just days after fans expressed concern about Steve’s future on the show. Last week, the show’s official Instagram account announced that a new series would debut on BBC One on August 14. Alongside a photo of presenter Jay Blade alongside experts Suzie Fletcher, Will Kirk, Dominic Chinea, Brenton West and Kirsten Ramsay, the caption read: “More repairs. More stories. More memories restored. The all-new #TheRepairShop launches August 14 on BBC One and iPlayer.”
While fans were happy about the news, some noticed that Steve was missing from the photo and voiced their concerns in the comments section. One person asked: “Steve isn’t missing is he?!”

Fred made his first appearance on the show in 2022, when he helped his father fix the largest clock ever attempted on the show. Watch a clip from the episode below.
After attending a scientific and technical college in 2020, the aspiring watchmaker joined his father’s family-run workshop as an apprentice.
InstagramSteve is not only the loving father of Fred, but also of four daughters: Amelia, Milly, Nicole and his youngest, whose name is not publicly known.
Like Fred, Milly works as a workshop manager for her father’s Oxford-based company. Amelia is now a social media influencer and his youngest daughter recently graduated from university.
