FIX NETWORK HOSTS ITS 15TH ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT IN ONTARIO

Story by MICHAEL VAVAROUTSOS

The 15th Fix Masters Golf Tournament was a huge success. Held at the legendary Glen Abbey Golf Course, the event saw 37 teams of four from the automotive industry compete to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Canada (RMHC).

Fix Auto London, which included Darren Hewitt, Patrick Schaffner and their guests, finished first in the tournament with a score of 14 under par. They were awarded a pennant that is rebranded each year. The tournament also featured a longest drive competition, won by Fab Giacomelli in the men’s category and Tanya McCulloch in the women’s category.

Daryll O’Keefe, senior vice president at Fix Auto, said the tournament was created to bring people from across the industry together.

“We wanted to involve everyone from our world, whether it’s insurance partners, vendor partners or strategic planners, to show the store owners that they’re really doing their job,” O’Keefe said. The day was capped off with a feast of chicken quesadillas, brisket sliders, grilled cheese and more. Fix even provided an ice cream truck. O’Keefe further noted that this wouldn’t have been possible without the help of the golf course.

“The facility did a great job hosting us. It was just a wonderful dining experience as we toured the course and it culminated in a lovely welcome,” he explained.

This tournament was also used to show appreciation to one of the first Fix Network adopters in Ontario. Doug Roberts, who worked for the network for over 20 years and managed its facility for 50 years, recently passed away on Father’s Day. To honour Roberts, a memorial service was held for him, showing photos of his participation in the golf tournament over the years.

Robert’s daughter Kim, who now runs Fix Auto Barry North, spoke at the event to honor her father’s life. “We always like to think that we are part of a world that is constantly evolving and this golf tournament is proof of that as year after year we improve the experience. This was a day of celebration, networking and using the power of the network to raise money for charity,” O’Keefe said.

RMHC provides support to families with children in hospital. The charity believes that every child deserves the presence and love of their family, especially when facing a serious illness.

“It’s been a wonderful partnership. The connection between our family businesses and the families who visit these Ronald McDonald Houses is just incredible. They are families helping families for the purest and most right reasons,” O’Keefe said.

The tournament raised approximately $7,200 in donations for RMHC through 50/50 ticket sales, registration donations and a generous $715 donation from Daniel Tsatsos, the day’s 50/50 winner.
